EPCOS develops low-loss RF filters

EPCOS develops low-loss RF filters

EPCOS has recently developed the first low-loss RF filters LH58D and LH58D2, which can be used in mobile TV applications supporting the MediaFLO standard. According to reports, two new components will be used in the 53 (707MHz) and 55 (719MHz) bands of MediaFLO developed by Qualcomm.

EPCOS stated that the new filter has good electrical characteristics and is highly selective to the frequency band used. The insertion loss of these filters is only 3.0dB, and the available passband is 5MHz, which can effectively suppress various mobile phone frequency bands. This new type of filter uses a patch ceramic package with an area of 2.5×2.0mm and a height of only 0.8mm, which can meet the strict space requirements of mobile TVs.

MediaFLO-based commercial mobile TV services are scheduled to be launched in the United States in the second half of 2006. EPCOS further pointed out that MediaFLO allows mobile phone service operators to transfer data-intensive video services to private networks, thereby retaining their mobile infrastructure as voice calls and Internet access services. Through MediaFLO mobile phones, MediaFLO will provide users with real-time video broadcasting services.
